Physical Form

Pale yellow or orange stranger. Solid body is composed of a soft, warm wax, which drips from the candroni's body as it moves; the droplets cool and harden once they hit the ground. Eye markings are hard, and affixed firmly to the skin. Claws are made of a slightly harder, more plasticine wax.

Vulnerable to changes in temperature. Freezes solid and breaks apart in cold weather, and melts when exposed to high heat levels. Body repels water, but is damaged by either hot or cold water, which cause its body to melt down or freeze solid, respectively. The candroni's regenerative ability is high, however, as it must make up for mass lost from its constant dripping.

Speaks through a high-pitched, child-like voice.

A candroni in an intangible state looks like a flickering, flame-like silhouette.

Manifestation & Location

Appears in residential basements. More likely to appear in musty, earthy locations.

Starts off as a small, hot pile of wax, which bubbles and rises into the candroni's form; eventually grows cool enough that the candroni can retain its shape and begin to move around. The candroni is very vulnerable during this time, however, and sometimes completely cools down and hardens, or never grows cool at all, and melts apart. Only 57% of candroni survive the generation process.

Behaviour & Effects

Careful, shy disposition. Moves with brisk but cautious steps. Holds its tail upright, and flicks it in response to changes within its environment. Spends a large percentage of its time in a sitting position, however.

Picks up any candle it finds, and presses them into its body through its forehead. These candles melt inside of its body, but each introduction of foreign wax causes slight destabilization and lightening of the candroni's stripes. Shakes its head back and forth when it finds a fake candle (such as a plastic holiday ornament or decoration, for example), and eyes the object with suspicion for some time as it moves away.

Tilts its head back and forth when it encounters any animal larger than a mouse, as though it does not know how to react to it. Ignores insects and other very small animals.

Sighs wistfully when cold temperatures causes its body to harden, but displays no other reactions to changes in temperature.

When it encounters a sensitive, says "hi!" (or a similar phrase in the language common to the region in which it appears) several times, excitement in its voice. Despite this greeting, displays shyness and moves away from the sensitive. Peeks out from behind shelves, boxes, or around corners, and hides its face when looked at.

If the sensitive continuously approaches the candroni, it says "hi!" once again, its tone just as upbeat; this response, however, is more of a defensive mechanism, rather than any social behaviour. Makes no other statements on its own, but does repeat any phrase it overhears.

Displays nervousness and quiet distress when touched, and lets out slight whimpers when contact continues for prolonged periods of time.

Displays this same suspicion towards other candroni, and as such, does not form groups.

Always approaches flame, and overcomes its shyness to approach sensitives who carry a lit match, candle, or any other source of flame. At first, just reaches its hand toward the fire and lets out quiet "oooh" and "aaah" sounds. Watches with curiosity as its body melts away in the heat, and moves closer and closer as its parts melt. If left to its own devices, a candroni will melt its entire body in this way. Does not display this same interest in non-flame sources of heat.

Life Cycle

Cools down, hardens, and crumbles apart at the end of its life, leaving only a pile of wax behind. Other candroni approach any corpses they find, and push these chunks through their own body, which causes up to a 40% increase in body mass. This increase in size is only temporary, however; the enlarged candroni eventually melts off the excess mass and returns to normal.
